Chris Hopkins, countertenor
Countertenor Chris Hopkins began singing as a treble with the Choir of St Andrew’s Cathedral, Inverness, before joining the Episcopal Cathedral of St Mary’s, Edinburgh, as a Lay Clerk in 2001. He moved to Sydney in 2002 where he joined the Choir of Christ Church St Laurence as a young counter-tenor, singing with the choir for 6 years.
Chris has been a regular member of the Australian Brandenburg Choir for 5 years and, until recently, held a permanent position with the Choir of St James' Church, King Street, for 6 years. He occasionally sings with the Sydney Chamber Choir, the Choir of St Mary’s Cathedral, Sydney, and new vocal ensemble, Hallelujah Junction.
Performance highlights include solo and chorus appearances in Handel's Messiah with the Choir of St James and the recent acclaimed performance of Schütz, Gesualdo and Macmillan’s Seven Last Word’s from the Cross with Sydney Chamber Choir.
