The Australian Historical Performance Initiative (AHPI) is a non-profit organisation founded to promote the performance of historical music, i.e. music from earlier time periods conceived through the 'historically informed performance' approach, by presenting concerts.*
In furthering the performance of historical music, the AHPI works with Australian musicians, performance venues, educational institutions and other related organisations and businesses to bring historical works of music, such as those composed during the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras, to Australian audiences through high-quality concerts, workshops, lectures and other related events.
The AHPI was founded on 24 May 2013 and is registered as charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).
* Historically informed performance (also referred to as period performance, authentic performance, or HIP) is an approach to the performance of Western music and theater. Within this approach, the performance adheres to state-of-the-art knowledge of the aesthetic criteria of the period in which the music or theatre work was conceived.
